Chicago, IL: Lane Brown, LLC Partner, Mark A. Brown, and associate attorney, Kellie Snyder, have settled a claim with the Archdiocese of Chicago on behalf of 38 year old John Doe, who was sexually abused as a minor in 1997-1998 by former Catholic Priest, Father Sleeva Raju Policetti.
“Fr. Raju,” as he was frequently called by parishioners of St. Tarcissus Church (6020 W Ardmore Ave, Chicago, IL), was previously accused of having a sexual relationship with another minor and fled the country for India approximately 20 years ago after the prior accusations came to light. He was laicized by the Catholic Church in 2008.
John Doe has struggled with the effects of the abuse, including severe and debilitating depression and anxiety, as well as other mental health issues. He is hopeful this settlement brings a new start to his life. “This former priest was a bad actor that caused devastating injuries to our client and others, we are happy he is out of our country and has been laicized,” said attorney Mark A. Brown.
The claim settled for $2.1 million.
